Las Colonias is Santiago’s oldest bakery. It was founded in 1888, and its actual owner, Antonio Navarro, has been working there since 1968. Here you can find milhojas (millefeuille puff pastry with merengue filling), larpeira (a kind of brioche with pastry cream), seasonal sweets like huesos de santos or rosquillas (little fried doughnuts) and of course Tarta de Santiago, Santiago’s famous almond cake, both whole or in small individual portions, which sell at 1,80€ each.
