Copa Jerez 2017

Jorge was in Andalusia this week as a guest of Copa Jerez.

Copa Jerez is a bi-annual contest where international chefs and sommeliers work together to show the most interesting pairings of food and sherry. This year the organization also held a Gastronomic Sherry Forum for the first time, with chefs and sommeliers talking about different aspects of Sherry and how it interacts with food. The participants were able to taste extremely old and rare wines, and the high point of the event was the Sherry tasting led by Pitu Roca, sommelier at El Celler de Can Roca, together with guitarist Diego del Morao who, on Paco de Lucía’s last guitar, was playing a flamenco piece paired with the wine. Here is a short video to get you a rough idea…

The Dutch team won the Cup, and Best Sommelier award went to our beloved Juan Luis García from Casa Marcial.

And this weekend we’ll be heading to another D.O., Ribeiro, for their annual awards!
